Going Skiing?

skiing fitness

Skiing is a demanding sport. It subjects your body to repeated stresses and involves strenuous exertion at high altitudes. The fitter you are, the better and longer you will be able to ski each day, the lower your risk of injury will be, and the more you will enjoy your holiday.

Why not get fit now for your skiing trip with this 4-week or 8-week Ski Fitness Program.

Both packages available will take on the following emphasis…

Balance and coordination

This can be the most fun part of training for skiing. Wobble boards/cushions, BOSU Balance Trainers, and even the Swiss-ball will be used to improve balance. Injuries can damage your proprioception, (the sense by which you instinctively judge where your limbs are in space), and balance work will help you regain that awareness.

Endurance

The basis for all endurance training is a good level of cardiovascular exercise. This means aerobic sessions of anywhere from 20 minutes to 1 hour. You will train with a heart rate monitor to keep you in the right zone. You will be performing long gym or outdoor sessions at around 50-60% of your max heart rate.

The other benefit gained from a good endurance-training program will be an improvement in body fat percentage. Imagine skiing for the whole day with a heavy rucksack, and how much easier it would be without it.

Ski specific strength

This ski specific strength training will replicate the movements made when skiing, and will incorporate an element of balance and coordination. We will be using varied bodyweight exercises along with weighted exercises utilising cables, dumbbells and barbells creating a functional multi-planar training routine.
